When the first LAMY 2000 made its appearance, in 1996, it was a risky business, and for many it was a provocation: a fountain pen with only one aim, to be a comtemporary tool for wiring. No decorative elements. Made from modern materials. An honest writing intrument aimed purely at practival use.
The LAMY 2000 made a radical break with the supposition that writing instruments should look the same as they always had. It attempts to avoid making any pretentious claims to irs users, either by borrowing from some previous member of the world of shapes, or through materials that were intended to give an impression of particular high value.
Function alone determined the shape of the LAMY 2000 fountian pen and ballpoint pen. They were among the first writing instruments of the modern shcool. This was a modernity that began to make its presence felt generally, among other consumer goods, in the Sixties, and which was influenced by the Bauhaus movement and the "Ulm School".
The LAMY 2000 writing instruments range first saw the light of day in 1966, and has been sold unchanged since then. For the Year 2000, a special edition of the fountain pen and ballpoint pen models has been commissioned, with numbers limited worldwide, 5000 for fountain pen and 10,000 for ballpoint pens.
Unlike the standard writing instruments, the surface of these two writing instruments are made of stainless steel, and are completed by a Butler finish. Every single one of these writing instruments can be identified by the following laser engraving: "LAMY 2000 Edition".
